While working on oil gauge and jeep idling the pulley on power steering came off or started wobbling. I have looked on all sites for a fix and cannot find one. I know this happened to someone else, what can I do. 1981 CJ7 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I cannot find anything that gives me a fix.

The one on the crank ( bottom of the engine ) or the one on the steering pump itself?

Whow it usually takes a seious amount of grit to put one of those on. It's hard to imagine a properly fitting pump pully coming off. Good luck with finding a fix.

Steering pump itself..

I think your going to have to find a new or used pump. I cant recall ever seeing that problem myself. :dunno:

it looks like where center of pulley connects to shaft or what ever it is has just broke lose.

As I recall the pump is pretty easy to find new/rebuilt but the pulley is a bit of a problem. I would be looking for a used one, should not be that hard to find.

I found one on ebay. Ordered it now if my service manual will come so I can figure out how. I have called all over usa to find one and seems no one has one. maybe I lucked out with ebay find. Just hope it is in good shape .

Seems like there would be some aftermarket parts that could exchange it with.

Since all power steering pumps need a pulley a replacement shouldn't be that hard to find. It's a double pulleys that support an air pump that are difficult to find. I just went through this last summer, putting a pully on the power steering shaft is no easy task, that is unless you have the right tool for the job. The pulleys are a friction fit that takes a substancial puller ..... and ahhhh what to call it ..... lets try, putter on-er ..... which uses a grabber type hook, a bearing, threaded bolts and wrenches, it's quite a tool and you need it to do the job correctly.

did you find a pulley or the whole pump??

the pulley replacement will require a special puller and then the new will have to be pressed on, or use the put-er-on-er

It is the whole unit. Looks like in the pic it was just taken off.

I got the pump and pulley with brackets and had to change the high pressure power steering hose. Got one at advance auto and had to make it work. It was way to long and the bends were not correct. Do they make 2 different ones. It was not even close. I got it going but know I will have to change it out again. Where do you all buy things like that?

I had mine custom built. I had my original and told them to make the new one EXACTLY like the old one. They actually went head and did it the way they wanted. I told them the new one wouldn't work and they argued with me. I usually don't do this, but I was mad. So, when I brought it back and told them not to try to show me how superior they were and do it my way. They did and all was well. The point being, you might have to bring your Jeep in to get the hose done correctly.

I did a search on Morris 4x4 and they list 2 / by the pic one looks just like mine. But cost so much hate to make another mistake. Where do you get them made?

The pulley can be installed using a bolt. It takes a puller to pull it off. Oreillys has loaners.

Got all that on was just the wrong power steering hose. The one that seem to be correct is crown part number J5370018. Part is not that bad shipping is awful
