Will I need to shell out extra cash for an agr pump for mild off road? Would a stock pump do? Going down to 33's

I do mild to intermediate off road in my CJ, and other than installing a premium steering dampener, my steering works fine with the stock pump. Of course, I'm not running huge tires, and I only have a 2.5" suspension lift.

:)What steering gear do you have in your Jeep? It is a good Idea if you have upgraded the steering gear that a pump matched to it's needs pressure wise be used...........the GM style ham can looking pump has an adjustment that can be made by a qualified person.
If you have downsized load.........IE: tires size then it may be OK.
You need higher pressure if your pushing bigger tires but keep in mind to much pressure will also allow you to bend tie rods and other steering components when a wheel is up against a rock or large object.

Germy, the only reason I installed the AGR pump, was I installed their steering gear box that was tapped for their Rockram steering assist. With the whole system, the stock pump is not quit enough. Otherwise your stock pump should be fine. I run 33's. I probably went the route of overkill.

I have a PSC power steering box (waggy variable ratio) with a stock-style pump and it will turn my 35" swampers on pavement with one finger on the wheel.
The only time I ever had trouble was with the stock box and pump right after I bought the CJ. The pump overheated on a hot day while wheeling in a sand pit. I installed a cooler off an old Ford truck and have never had a problem again.

I have a standard box with hd bracket and brace. I bring this up because as she was, when I would turn the wheel all the way, the pump belt would slip giving no pressure. I bought a serpentine pulley and bracket kit, so I don't think it will be a problem anymore

My stock pump handled my 33's without any problems. It does seem to strain abit with the 35's sometimes though.

Ok, I'm sticking with a stock replacement then, save some bucks! Painting that pretty diff cover tonight old dog:)

I put a AGR box and pump in. The pump died after 2 years. I do run a hydraulic winch hard.

Stock NAPA pump works way better than the AGR ever did.

Save your money on the pump. The box is worthwhile.

Cool, thanks for the info!
