How hard would it be to switch power steering to manual steering on a 1977 CJ5 ? How expensive would it be, and would it be a stupid thing to do? Just wondering if power steering is all that important in a CJ5 . I'm also trying to get my post count over ten and I have this stream of consciousness thing going. Thanks.

I don't understand why you would spend the money to go backwards. But if that is what you want I bet there is a lot of guys who would swap you there manual parts for your power.

You are probably right about going backwards, but I was messing with the steering today and just started wondering about it.

I have had both and I love my power. But if you do a lot tough 4wheeling sometimes manual is a good thing. I was going a step climb and couldn't make it and when I stopped the motor died. Now with manual steering and brakes I got back down with out the motor see my point.

Im trying to locate a PS system for my 82 I just bought..the previous owner decided to replace the stock manual steering column with one from a 90 cherokee because it was tilt..wish it had the original cj man steering so I could at least buy one of those kits that turn it into ps..the 32s' and the AMC 304 and the dinky steering wheel make it hard to turn
