Need some help...

I read 8,000 posts and still ned help - sorry.

I have a '69 CJ5 - Dauntless Buick 225 V6 with a Prestolite Distributor. Want to move away from the points - Had them 2 years and don't want to change again.
I'd like to make it simple as I'm scared to mess up a great running engine.
Don't want to sound like an idiot at the parts store and don't want to go to the junk yard to search. I'm comfortable working on the engine - But never messed with distributors.

Will a a '76 Buick Skyhawk Delco distributor switch out with my prestolite without hassle of the gear?

Is there an easy swap to a delco with Pertonix Ignitor. If so what Delco distributor should I ask for? Is the distributor all I need?

Just looking for the exact parts so I have the right thing the first time.

Thank you in advance,

Dave

I can give you a few pointers on the dist. ?.
First thing would be to check and make sure which engine you have.
1. stock 225 odd-fire v6
2. 231 odd or even-fire v6
After that you can decide. If it is a 225 odd-fire motor that came in your jeep you have a couple options.
Source a delco odd-fire point dist and install the pertronix conversion. This would be the easiest and should work great. I bought a rebuilt dist from napa a few years back and it was very reasonable price.
Buy a delco HEI dist for a odd-fire ('75-76 Dauntless Buick 225 V6 ).
They will fit with some modification to intake manifold. Not a bolt on deal.
There is a lot of info out there about the questions you are asking. Good luck on the project. Oh ya, if I forgot anything someone will be with you shortly.

Dave,

I highly recommend the Pertronix Electronic Distributors. They cost about the same as a new distributor and “NO POINTS” also saw an increase in power with mine.

I do like the pertronix for a couple reasons.
1.traditionalst,I like the stock look.
2 full 12v ,no ballest resistor needed.ditto for HEI = more voltage
3 HEI is 30 year old tech.

But have to tell the truth---I have points in both my V6's
I will probably change that some day.I have pertronix dist in 1600cc VW
and also in my 427 sideoiler ford w/msd6al. No problems. Mike:)
