1979 CJ7 with disc/drum brakes. It is necessary to have a proportioning valve for this setup? Every MBM-PV2 valve I use leaks and it's getting old continuing to replace it. Any recommendations for fixing this once and for all in an economical way? Thanks.

My valve is still mounted on the frame below the driver floorboard. The exhaust runs right next to it and it leaks from the metering valve. I wonder if the heat from the exhaust could be causing this.

YES-a P'valve is necessary.
Go with the heat shield idea.
PLZ post up pictures and results.
Go to NAPA and buy theirs. Sounds like you have been buy'n Crown junk(china).

Inline tube VML101. Mine has been leak free for couple years now. Seems to be a quality product and gets lots of good reviews.

More technically, it is combination valve. And one of the main reasons to run it, is that if you lose braking in either the front or the rear (broken line, etc.), it will not allow all the fluid to drain out. Leaving you with no brakes heading toward the nearest immovable object.

Sounds like a pretty good reason to keep it, and functional to me. Especially if you wheel in the mountains :)
