Prototype Speaker Covers

So here's what my dash looks like now:


I'm guessing this is a common occurrence?

Here's my solution:


I used my wood cutting CNC to make them out of 9 ply Baltic birch. The back is routed out to fit the speaker:


Here it is sitting on the speaker:


And finally installed on the dash:


I need to enlarge the counter-bores so the screws go below the surface. I haven't decided what color to paint them yet.

What do you guys think?

I like them! :rock: Might want to make a bunch and sell them in the classified section, I'm sure others would buy a set. Can you do the same idea but with a different grill design, like the jeep front grill image?

By-the-way, what CNC do you use?

Thanks guys. I haven't decided on the finish. I may just paint them gloss black, since I don't have paint to match the dash.

I have the first gen CNC Shark. I bought it through Rockler. Yes, I could cut any pattern on the front. The Jeep front grill is a great idea. I was also thinking of a spiderweb, etc..

Those covers are nice. I Ike the front grill idea also. Crazy how people butcher the dash like that. I know it is not easy getting good speakers back there

I thought about it. If I put some fancy veneer on the plywood before cutting the slots and holes out - it would look awesome!
