pulling a camper

I have just bought a pop up camper that weighs in at about 3000lb. The camper has electric brakes on it so the stopping isn't much of an issue if I can figure out how to hook the seven way plug up to the jeep. The issue or question is will this be to much of a load for a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , 4.10 gears or will this not be a problem? Just looking for some opinions.

I hope you don't plan on using an oem hitch, since they are pretty weak, they are rated at 2000 lbs. as I recall.

It weighs 3000 lbs empty by the time you load it up with all your stuff for a camping trip how much do you think it's going to weigh? Hooked to a short wheel base that weighs less could be a hair raising ride. IMO This is why I have a truck.

The fact that the factory only put a 2000 lb. hitch on should tell you something.

I wasn't aware of the fact that the factory hitch is only rated at 2000lb, this is the main reason I was asking the opinion of more experienced jeepers. I know the jeep its self only weighs about 3500lbs or so. I have a truck so I believe I will just be using the truck. Thanks for the info, it is appreciated.

Assuming adequate power the single biggest aid in trailer pulling IMHO is wheelbase. My 3+3 (crew cab) SRW towed better than my standard cab DRW. The 93"-ish CJ7 does not excel in this area.
