1980 CJ7 Quadratrac
I am considering to purchase a 1980 CJ7 with Quadra Trac. The Emergency switch does not exist. It has been removed from the glove box.

Does this mean the Transmission is in positrack mode or locked into 4 wheel mode.

Last year for Quadra Trac is 1979.

With that being said, the operation modes were normal or emergency drive, controlled by the knob via vacuum lines and diaphragm.

If it's still stock, still operating correctly, and hasn't been modified with a part time kit, if the unit were engaged in emergency drive, you wouldn't be able to turn a tight circle or any slight turn for that matter on a hard surface. it will bind up severely.

If the unit has been converted to part time, then the vacuum operation becomes your 2wd/4wd control.

While we're on the subject of the Quadra Trac, did any of these come in a CJ5 ? If not, would it work in a CJ5 or was it because of the shorter wheel base that it wasn't used? And finally, will it mate to a AMC 150 three-speed Transmission ?

Check it out and see what you have. Quadratracs get a bad name from people who don’t know how to use them. It’s actually the predecessor to many drivelines in use today.

I have one and like it a lot. Like all parts of the driveline it has advantages and disadvantages. Many QT owners installed MileMarker kits to change some advantages to disadvantages and vice versa.

Never came in a 5 as was stated but a T-150 to QT would be a Novak question.
