I just did a hydraulic clutch conversion on my 1980 CJ7 . Do I still need the clutch pedal return spring or can I remove it now? It seems to me that it may no longer be necessary and is just creating more resistance to pushing on the pedal. Thanks!

Solution
I would definitely keep it. You don't want the pedal putting unnecessary pressure on the slave cylinder causing throw out bearing wear.

Thanks for the reply, CJ. I guess I will just replace it with a new one then - mine is rusty and makes a lot of noise like a door creaking.
Ahh, the common old clutch pedal spring squeak! You can also put on a weaker spring... ;)

That's a great idea! That spring has a TON of tension.
Yes, remember the spring was engineered for an era before a CJ hydraulic clutch system existed. ;)

And to think, in 41 years of having my Jeep, I forgot its birthday for the first time ever. It wasn’t up to par this year. It’s hell getting old. Mine could probably use a lighter spring also with Hydro.

Same Jeep for 41 years??? INCREDIBLE!!! I just bought this one last fall, but I've had six other CJs and a couple other Jeeps in my life so far.

Yeah it was sitting on top of the big 18 wheeler and I saw a beautiful plain silver Jeep with no stickers and with no top and everything still in the boxes. It was Saturday afternoon. I went back after work on Monday and found out how you buy a new vehicle. I was traumatized. ;) I have never purchased another new vehicle. But I’m not a big car person other than my Jeep. I’m still only driving my 2nd ( Jeep ) and my 5th ( commuter ) .

I bought my first new vehicle about 10 years ago and was also traumatized. I'll never do it again. Miserable experience. Discovered too many lies. Nothing but ongoing service issues with the vehicle. Terrible experience with both the dealership and the corporate customer care department. Also discovered the TX "lemon law" is a scam as well. Bought the current CJ and have never looked back.

Luckily for me I got a great Jeep. Just the experience wasn’t good. I remember your story. Now that was traumatic.
