RC Jeep - Just A Small Obsession
Who doesn't have just a hint of a small Jeep obsession? Do you need a new hobby or money pit? Then here's another seven slot grille based venue to spend your hard earned dollar on!Just in case you needed a new hobby, a new obsession, a new money pit. Hey we just wanted to introduce you to another seven slot grille based venue to spend your hard earned dollar, waste time, and generally kill personal productivity. Why? Well some of us on the Jp magazine editorial staff suffer not only from an addiction to building and tinkering with fullsize Jeeps, but also to miniature remote controlled Jeeps. The truth is if you are a car guy or gal you chances are you have owned if not at least oogled R/C cars in your local hobby shop. They are a blast to drive, and working on them is a great way to learn the fundamentals of how a car or truck works. In recent years rock crawling trucks and buggies have become all the rage. It should be obvious that Jeep would be all over this market, and they are. Five years ago if you wanted to own a scale remote controlled Jeep built for small off-road fun you had to build custom parts and piece it all together out of parts pirated from other remote controlled cars. It was time consuming, expensive, sometimes difficult, and in the end a blast. The good news is that time is past and now-a-days there are several kit and ready-to-run (RTR) R/C based vehicles that you can buy online or at your local hobby shop. Several of these vehicles come out of the box wearing our favorite slotted grilles and there are many Jeep bodies available in the R/C aftermarket if your crawler is not already a Jeep. We have been leveraging, prying, begging, and crying to get some R/C Jeep tech in Jp magazine to show you guys this fun. Finally Editor Hazel crumbled under our near constant requests…or finally just got tired of hearing about it and humored us. The plan is to do several web based articles on the build-up of one of these off the shelf RTR 1/10th scale R/C Jeeps from Axial Racing. The Jeep is an SCX10 (That’s the chassis) ’12 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 1/10th Scale Electric 4WD - RTR (PN AX90028).
