Hello everyone, I am new to this site so bare with me. I bought a 1977 CJ5 and the rear axle is off center about 1/8 of an inch. Does anyone here explain how I can center the axle to the correct position? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
Things can get bent over the years and move around, I don't think you should worry about it. Did you measure from the locating holes on the spring pads to the center of the pinion gear?
1979 Jeep CJ5 with 304 V8, T18 Transmission, Dana 20 Transfer case with TeraLow 3:1 gears, 4.88 axle gears, Detroit Locker up front and Ox Locker in back with 1 piece axle shafts, 36" SuperSwamper SX Tires, Shackle reversal, MileMarker Hydraulic winch, MSD 6A ignition.
73 CJ5 4.0 head on a 258, HEI, Holley Projection w/ 4.56, Detroit lockers Narrowed D44 front and full float D44 rear T14 w/ D20 4 wheel discs, 38.5 Boggers
the big concern would be how the rear tracks behind the front wheels. yoke being a little off would be secondary. How did you determine that the axle was 1/8th off center?
X 2 on how did you figure that it was off set by 1/2 of an inch? If your measuring from your body make sure that the body is square on the frame.. Id lean more towards the body is off then the axle has moved.
