rear spring hanger

Quick question. How many bolts are suppose to attach the rear spring hanger to the frame on an 80 CJ5 ?

I got one per side and what looks like a bit of a stud on one side and a broke something on the other. I thought it seemed odd to only have one.

Sounds like you have a couple of busted off heads on each side that are broken just below the surface of the spring shackle hanger. If so you could remove those hangers and grab those broken off bolts with some vise grips to remove them. Check the female thread condition and replace all four with at least a grade 5 bolt. Good place for some Loctite also.

Both bolts were intact until I tried to remove them. Here is what I got:



The long one is the shackle bolt. I used my Craftsman extractors to remove what remained of the bolt after spraying with a rust penetrator really good.
