I have a build thread going and am nearing frame cleaning, blasting, coating and painting. I tried searching for build/step advice to see opinions on the best way to start putting chassis back together(springs, axles, brakes wheels, lines, tank, engine tranny, shafts, steering, etc.) I am wanting to have new parts arrive as needed and not have something holding up progress but don't want to just start ordering everything and spend a ton and have it taking up garage space and possibly get damaged. Any advice is appreciated

Interesting but ultimately a straight forward question to answer. Which is more important, 1 - money, 2 - time spent on the project, 3 - getting your garage back for other things.

Money is going to flow out of your bank account like water for a while, do you want to get it over with quickly or let it leak out more slowly

If you have an extended time period for the project go one step at a time accomplishing each task is some particular order as a separate project. I.E. work exclusively on the rear axle, taking it apart, ordering what is needed and reassembling, installing, then moving on to the next task. This will likely take longer, but will be cleaner as far as ordering and getting ONLY the parts that you truly need. It will also save room in your garage with one project at a time rather that a scattering of projects with the fear of mixing parts up.

If you are in a hurry and have the cash to do it you can order a whole bunch of parts all at once guessing at what you believe you need and making up for the surprises by ordering quickly while buttoning up other projects while waiting for the parts to arrive. At the end of the project you can sell or donate the parts you didn't need to other CJ enthusiasts.

I think most of us do a little of all three.

CarolinaRaven, I am in the process of reassembly myself. When I took my '77 CJ5 apart I rebuilt/refurbished/replaced each component as it came off the Jeep. Ie: Heater, steering, master cylinder etc. Now that I am reassembling everything it goes rather quickly. The other thing I did is get the chassis 100% done before the tub went back on. It's much easier to run brake/fuel lines from the top side vs: laying underneath the Jeep. I also started a 3 ring binder to keep receipts in and have been working on a master part number list for all of the things I have ordered.

Just how I am doing mine.
