Hey all, replaced the rear main seal in my 1980 CJ7 and the pan gasket as it was leaking substantially. Oil pressure was very low at idle and about 40-50psi at 50 miles an hour. I also replaced the oil and filter but used 15-40 as it was left over from my other truck. Now oil pressure is 70psi and 20+ at idle. I also cleaned out the oil pan as it was rather nasty. Question is does replacing the rear main seal increase the oil pressure or is it just the heavier oil, or the clean pan?

The oil raised your pressure, not the seal. The seal keeps it in the pan.
