83 CJ7 ... The factory battery tray finally gave its last stand to the iron moths. Was going to order a replacement. Any recommendations as to what fits properly ? I have the tools to build a new one, just not the time. Jeep is 200 miles away from my shop.

In 2010 I replaced my battery tray for $25. I didn't note where I bought it (maybe I could look up the receipt) but here's one for $29:

It's just like the one I bought. I really don't know why it has those 2 taps with screw holes on the left of this picture. Maybe someone else can answer that. I never used those holes. They must have been needed for other years. (mine's a '79)

I mounted a125 Amp fuse there in a watertight rubber holder. Works perfect.

costs more but stainless is the way to go on this.

Shifter, I am looking at a white nylon fish cleaning board, 1/2 inch thick, that has an inch around outside my battery footprint. I've had it in mind for a battery base for a long time. I have some SS tubing 3/4" I.D. that will replace OEM steel. I can drill and tap the nylon, bolt up the new SS braces, and never worry about rust and corrosion again.

I know about time to get work done, so maybe this isn't just now your cup of tea.

I purchased one like this... But 1 question...
Where does the tubular piece go ? My old one does not have one, and I can't find anything that it lines up with . :wtf:

On mine there are two of those supports that go from the bottom of the tray to the firewall for added support.

Underside front, to the firewall.

You might be surprised, see if you can look under some ones hood. The bracket probably goes to one of your fender bolts or a bolt already installed in the fire wall. The way the ends are crimped makes sense once you see how the brace is attached. One end is attached to the stud welded in place on the drivers side of the battery box.

That's exactly what the brace does.
Mounts to a fender to body bolt, then under the tray.

Ill keep looking for a spot when I get back to the jeep...I'm 200 miles away from it... Can't see from here...

Ok... My google-fu is better tonight. Found some images online.. Apparently my brace is about 1" too short to go where it is supposed to...:pissed:
Guess I'll have to make a new on when I get back home...someday..

Or you can drill a hole for a new stud/bolt.

Thanks peanut butter... The bracket that was sent for the inner one was too short. I was able to get home to the jeep for a bit this weekend. I made a new bracket.. All is good there now.
