I just purchased the Temp/Fuel combo for my '83 CJ7 . I went to install them and realized the ones I were replacing were after market also but a different style. They had plastic snap on backs and only two terminals on the fuel gauge instead of the stock three. So not having taken off the stock ones I have nothing to go by to put the stock style back in. Since almost everything grounds to the speedo case I would assume how the physical gauges mount is important. Are there plastic/rubber washers inside and outside the case to isolate the gauges? Could someone give the info on istalling these for example what type of washers are used and in it what order they go for proper installation. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,

Chris

Update...I installed the guages into the speedo housing with nothing between the gauges and the inside of the housing. On the backside I put a rubber washer first so that the posts didn't ground to the speedo housing when installing the metal washer and retaining nut. I have confirmed that I am getting 12v to the gauge but when I ground the sender posts I get nothing. I have attached the instructions and have the gauges wired as shown in the diagram. The confusing part is in the introduction section it makes reference to "wiring revisions" instructions that would be in the package. I got no such instructions. As far as I can tell everything is as it should be but no movement on the gauges. Could I have just gotten a bad apple(s)?

I have attached a snapshot from John's webpage. My results are below with John's #s in ():

1. GRD to S = 61 (71)
2. GRD to I = 40 (51)
3. GRD to A = 40 (51)
4. S to I = 26 (21)
5. S to A = 28 (21)
6. I to A = 7.4 (0)

Not sure what to make of this. The numbers are ceratinly off but it seems like I should get some kind of movement on the fuel gauge since there is plenty of fuel in the tank let alone I got no needle movement when grounding the sending (S) which should have made it go to "F". any thoughts?
