Is there an aftermarket speedo that fits into the same hole as the stock one. I'm not looking for one of those expensive ones that are identical to the originals. I just need one that's just a speedo. I've already had to add an aftermarket fuel and temp guages. The cheaper the better.

Search for this on Amazon...

Finding a speedo without the fuel/temp gauge in the 7" round flavor will take a bit of searching. Maybe something old school at the bone yard, or a large mini cooper speedo.

I'm going to have a dash overlay made, with a 5" hole where the 7" hole is then switching to all auto meter gauges, just a thought... .

Yeah, i was thinking that reducing the hole was where i was going to end up. But I'll look around and see if there's anything out there.

There really are several of them out there. Until you spend BIG money you will be wasting your time though. GPS units are the way to go though.

Do you have a GPS unit you would recommend? I too need a speedometer as well as a gas gauge/odometer. When the odometer worked I just filled the tank every 100miles but now I have nada. It would be nice if there was a GPS that would track speed & mileage accurately.

No I don't, But I've been looking at them quite a bit. Interesting enough my speedometer seems to have fixed itself. The Jeep sat for quite a few years, now that it is running I believe like a motor that sat it's clearing out problems. Running against my vehicle GPS It has settled out to be consistently 6 mph slow and the odometer is surprisingly close enough.

That sucks. Been there, while also keeping my fingers crossed.

Speedhut...

I had been researching this at some point but the cost got to be too much for me. The Speedhuts were very nice, well recommended and had what you are looking for. They are also made to match the hole opening and look sortof like a CJ version.

Speedhut has replacement Jeep gauge clusters and GPS gouges

Half my gauges are already Autometer, otherwise I would use speedhut.

The CJ already is a mixed bag of manufacturers...

I know, right? It's the "mutt" of the auto industry.

Do bone yards ever have working CJ speedometers? If not, I guess I'd use google to search craigslist. Just put something like this

site:craigslist.org CJ5 parting out

into the search field and you should see a bunch of CJ5 donor vehicles. Who knows, you might even find a sane person that'll pull and ship it.

In the canine world, mutts are genetically less likely to suffer from purebred pre-dispositions.

M.U.T.T. is short for Military Utility Tactical Truck.

Either way you slice it, your love is well placed.
