What is a good brake line brand that you have been happy with? I am in the process of installing a 2.5 inch lift in my CJ7 , my brake lines are original and showing their age with some cracks. It's probably a good time right now to change them while I am doing the lift. I heard the braided stainless steel brake lines are better than the OEM stuff. Do they make a stainless steel lines for smaller lifts like mine all I see is the 4-6 inch lift stuff and they don't recommend using them if your lift is under 4 inches. What do you guys think?

Cheers, Brian

The benifit of ss lines in a cj are minamal. I can agree a high tech race car can benifit from ss lines, but the amount of gain in your vehicle will not even be noticable to a professional. Go with regular lines and save some money

I had a set of SS braided lines made at a store that dealt with big truck hydraulics. Cost about $60 and they extended them to 6" over stock.
Burst strength is nearing 25K PSI (IIRC). stock rubber lines can't come close to that (but then again neither can my manual brakes!)
There are a few other advantages to SS lines, But I don't have time this morning to type them up.

Your ORIGINAL brake lines are 1985, right? So... that's 25 years of service. Stainless may give you 30, maybe.

So... how old are you going to be next time you're ready to change out the brake lines on that Jeep? If you use the rubber ones? If you use stainless?

Good point Tim, I will be 65-70 years old by then. lol

:cool:Twenty-Five years ago they knew how to make things.Today who knows I'd make sure their made in a place you trust.
Good Luck

You can never have too much stainless steel on your Jeep.

I vote stainless just because I believe they are stronger.

Just make sure whatever you buy is long enough.;)

well im not sure if its all the same but i have a 1970 CJ5 and i went to napa and just orderd all the lines that they had there a black line that looks great when you look under the body and i have had no problem with them at all tho other problems have senced made it hard to fully test them out.

Well guys, like I have stated, you will never create the preasure to blow a good rubber line, or the heat to swell one, A CJ 's brakes are nit good enough to bulge a set of rubber lines, I still say rubber it is as you are just throwing money out the window for SS on a jeep. Unless you are into chrome, but the saying does go
"chrome don't get you home"
Save the money for something you need.

I ordered a set of Goodridge stainless steel lines both front and back for $58 dollars the rubber ones were $48 dollars. $10 dollars difference, I went with stainless steel.

Yes SIR! :notworthy:

Oh and by the way, a rubber line will not take to chaffing and abrasion like a SS line will. My rubber lines were nearly completely worn thru from rubbing on the upper ball joint nut when I bought my Jeep. Another reason I went with Stainless.
Your opinion is not always the opinion of everyone, thanxverymuch

x2 i went with the chevy brake lines they got me about 5" worth of extension. there are plenty of other places on your jeep to spend the money you will save

yep and ss line won't take kinking, and getting pinched like a rubber line will, plus you have the added cost of ss. there are downfalls to both, but auto manufacturers wouldn't use rubber lines if they were ineffective, or unsafe. ss lines really truly are unnecessary for a jeep, but its your money spend it how you want

Most guys would have cured the problem by fabing a mount to move the brake line out of harms way. However the method you used of just upgrading the line and allowing it to chaff can be debated.:chug:

Guess you didnt notice that I bought the Jeep that way...And I guess I needed to explain that I made them longer to keep them from chaffing again, instead of just replacing them with the same length.
My point is you write posts that seem to say your opinion is the only way to go, and everyone else is wrong.

I dunno - I think he's just supporting his position, and debating the way folks debate.

Ultimately, the decision is individual - everybody gets to make their own choiced based on their own resources & experience. Me, I don't think I'd like the stainless lines... and I certainly can't justify 'em when rubber'll do the job and nobody but me would ever care what flavor of brake lines I own...

I still think SS. is stronger, and will not get cut like a rubber line could.
I like the piece of mind it gives me.
They are always full of mud, so noone else knows what they are.

For $10 dollars more than rubber, I thought is made more sense to go stainless steel. If it was a lot more to go stainless than I would have gone to rubber lines.

Oh I noticed, but you said you used SS to fix the problem, not making a bracket or longer lines. Yes you need to explain, we are not at your garage to have a look.
well now I hope you noticed that I applaud your view of me so much, I have put your quote in my signature. That way every time someone reads my opinion, they can see that you think it is full of poopiee.
I must admit I was part of the debate team in college, so maybe my training comes off as a insult to some, and maybe they they do not understand as they have lesser educations than mine. If it does then I apologize, but I would never get upset about something so trivial as that. Life is to good to get upset over a simple statement online by someone I will never meet in my life. I have real problems to deal with, this is just a hobby.
