currently AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I6 and planning on going to the 4.0 head swap.

I want to get the DUI ignition, E3 spark plugs, and Accel 8mm wires.

does this seem like a good route to take or does someone have a better recommendation for my setup and plans?

also...in the future if i change to a propane conversion, all this stuff would be compatible right?

let me know what you think

I put E-3 in my Cherokee and it ran like poop.. had the dealer ship put the stock style plugs back and it ran great.. My .02. Also make sure you run the HEI off a relay The propane will work with what you have listed.

sounds good. i couldnt wait and ordered it all. we will see on the plugs...i just thought they would be more efficient..but maybe they just have good marketing.

whats a good spark plug for this set up?

The makers of the dui recommend an autolight plug, can't remember the number but runs great!

The e3's are junk

I don't believe they are junk. I use them in my Camry Hybrid, Dodge Ram and my lawn mower. They work well. In fact, the mower start in one pull and the Hybrid gets 1 more mpg with them. Nothing can help the 1998 Dodge Ram. It has the 5.9L and get 12-14mpg no matter how you drive it.
