Roll cage squeak?

On my '86 with a full cage I get a squeak that over the years just has been getting louder. At least I think it is the cage, like a metal to metal rubbing when the body flexes. I really can't figure out where it is at. I was thinking about putting gaskets between the mounting plates and the body as it is not connected to the frame. I did put padding where the front bar rubbed against the entry step or whatever it would be called. I was wondering if anyone else with a sport cage has this issue. I do have the soft top on, but I don't think that is it.

With a stiff cage on a body meant to flex I hope you don't have a stress crack somewhere in the body. How are your body mount pucks?

Doing further inspection and pulling on the cage, I do get a light squeak. pinpointing its location is hard to do but it sounds like it is coming from the inside of the CJ. A crack would be a possibility, so I will look for those. The body mounts look o.k. for a well flexed Jeep and those bolts are snug.

I used gasket material on the front 'feet' of my RC. Mine is connected to the frame and have never had any noise issue.
Have you ck'd ALL of the RC mounting bolts?
I would be look for cracks in the body and the mounting bolt locations.

You sure it's the roll cage? My bones squeak pretty loud these days!

Well if it is not, then I will eliminate that possibility there P.B. I did pull the cage and found a little rust so I will clean that out, repaint and install six gaskets.

You could spray the cage with WD40, or soapy water a section at a time. Spray, rock the cage, then move to the next section until the squeak stops. When it stops squeaking you found the problem area.
