I'm still new to Jeeps and have been "studying" every picture and description I come across of a Jeep to kind of practice identifying them. I thought I had pretty much come to the conclusion that all CJ5 's and '7's had round rear fender wells. But I am now holding a copy of a 4WD Hardware's sale flyer and it distinctly shows a rounded rear fender well on a Jeep but doesn't list that particular accessory (tinted window replace-a-top) for any CJ....only YJ and later. There are a couple of other examples of it in this particular flyer. Typo  Was there ever a YJ with rounded rear fender wells or does the squared off plastic extensions actually cover a rounded fender well

The tire opening is round on all Jeeps but they switched to a squared off fender flairs for the Wranglers on up. If you are refering to the door opening then the only vehicles to have that are the CJ5 , CJ6 and all flatties.

Thanks Kane. Yes, I'm asking about the wheel openings for the rear wheels. So it follows that the Y's should also be able to use the rounded flairs like on the CJ's??? I'm going to have to study these models for a little more exterior detail to be sure I can continue to ID them.

From the firewall back, all YJs and CJs tubs are identical, except for two front body mounts and the front floor pan design.

Brock,
Thanks for the tip about the square headlights :yj: Actually, my trick to remembering that the Y's have square headlights is "WHY????".

I'm trying to remember detail that helps me ID them from any angle from a distance (like hiding deep in back yards, old barns, etc..). Apparently, spending every second of my free time on my current project isn't enough. I am constantly on the lookout for that one jeep that I can pick up for nothing and only needs a few minutes TLC to be like new!!! I plan to sell several of these, and make tons of money so I can continue to finance the restoration of my current Jeep :D
