Anybody ever run paddle tires with the stock AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l CJ7 ? If so what size rim and tire did you use?
Im thinking about getting some. Just not sure on what size and type. Just looking to cruz around in the sand. Not to sand race.
Thanks

I considered it. Once. Then I considered the fact that there was no way i would be able to stay out of the throttle, at some point I would step on the gas.

The only guys I know running paddles are using 14b, big bearing 9's, and D70's.

Anyway, if you are set on this, just try to match some up that are close the the tires you are running now.

Have fun, and for gods sake...stay out of the throttle :D:chug:

Well I do have a Dana 44 rear end with 4.10 gears. How do you feel about that? What could happen by hammering the throttle? Not questioning, just curious

Well, if they hook up on anything the Dana 44 will die an ugly death. :(
Guys who run Boggers (which are the mud equivalent to sand paddles) run into this problem frequently in the mud.

So when you say hook up on somthing,do you mean like a rock, or stump etc?

Yes, or a dry patch of ground.
Mud and sand are inherently hard on axles to begin with because of the force it takes to turn a tire through them. Compound that with the possibility of hooking up on something and disaster can happen quickly.

Im not trying to discourage you, just giving you a heads up :chug:
I think it would be fun to run paddles....I just dont know If I have what it takes to stay off the throttle enough to keep the axles alive :D

Well thanks for the advice. Guess I need to think about what I want to do.

flotation is the key.
wider wheels, 15 x 10, 15 x 15, low air pressure, and flexible sidewalls.
with that being said, paddles work better in the sand.
AMC20 and D44s will hold up just fine
I run my paddles on all 4 with no problems.
I don't dump the clutch at high rpms.
on wet sand, you may have trouble turning them, but then in wet sand conditions, you don't really need them.
Stick with a smaller paddle tire, 30" or 31" tall; don't go too tall or your HP and gear ratio won't be able to turn them; if you can't turn them, they won't do you any good.

If you can find a set of Terra tires on wide wheels, they work well in the sand as well.

I'd try to borrow a set from a buddy first before you make the $$ investment.
