A question for selecting new Shackles:

Since the added lift from a shackle seems negligable I'm not really concerned with that right now.

My thought is, a shackle should be selected by the length of the spring at it's flattest point. This will show you how far the leaf will stretch and if the shackle fits this length it should not allow the shackle to go into inversion during a full flex.

Does this sound correct?

Yes, Inversion is a no - no. Also look at grease-able bolts and some type of stabilization of the shackle with either a metal tube, bolt, angle iron between the two side pieces, etc. Take a look at the shackle hangers too. Good place for a week spot with rust, thin metal, etc.

Yup, already replaced the broken hangers on the back and will check out the front hangers shortly.

And if all you fine folks out there ever have an itch to replace those extra cheesey OE shackle hangers, well I got just the place to go to get a real nice set of shiny new hangers that wont leave ya hangin!! Just click your way to Crabtree Tool & Die at Crabtreetool.com. Made in America, stout and just tooooo cool! The gentleman there at Crabtree sells shackle hangers for the front and rear, and he has three bolt designs that'll knock your socks off!! I put a pair on the back of my 7 and recommend them highly!

I have been working with Jim Crabtree for the last couple of weeks. Really great guy and is a very small shop. He is shipping today a HD Tie Rod and Drag Link for a flip to the top side of the knuckle. He came highly recommended.
