Vehicle(s)
1970 CJ5, V6, 3spd, power steering, headers, electric fans, upgraded larger radiator, '78 grill, disc brakes (front only), swing pedals, hyd clutch, extended front shock mounts, upgraded front driveline w larger u-joints, warn OD, D30 front diff, lockers, 2100 carb, working on a '74 tub replacement, '78 windshield frame with '78+ Acme hardtop
Was talking to a guy today that has raced CJ5s for years. He was telling me how on the FRONT diff they switched the spring shackle to the rear spring mount and moved the pivot point to the front spring mount. He said it improved the ride & handling. Has anyone else heard this?

The military did that on the M38A1 Jeep, which was the last Jeep type vehicle prior to the "Mutt" which had coils, I'm pretty sure of that anyway. I have known people who have done that conversion, with poor results. On the highway it seems to be an improvement, off road there is a lot of spring wrap and excessive wheel travel. I recall hearing that it was supposed to be an "Improved design" over the conventional method, but over time it has been proven to be not so much. That conversion has pretty much faded out over the years. A coil spring conversion now seems to be popular with the fabrication guys.

Thanks, question answered.
