1985 CJ7. Lifted 1.25; nutter bypass; MC2150, Team Rush Upgrade with a MSB A6 Ignition Mod.
Well, I was going to replace the bushings in my shackles and took a look at the rear ones and they seem to be a bit shifted. Take a look at these pics and tell me what you think. If these are out of whack, I guess I will order new shackles. :rolleyes: Let me know what you guys think.

Thoes are not stock shackles, I think all you need is new bushings. But if you want new shackles it won't hurt anything.
 
If you look real close you can see that they are stock (bigger at the ends than the center) not picking just clarifying skinny little bolts I'd replace em too with greasable.
 
Looking at pic number one again, it's gratifying to see I wasn't the only one with the rear exhaust mount just holding a donut of steel!


This won't be too expensive Dear! That's what I keep saying. Over and over again.
 
I'd use the currie pieces in zinc but im too cheap to buy them. I wanted jeep parts for my birthday and got a 9000 piece (no really ) puzzle of the bombardment of Algiers ?????? 6'x4.8' that shouldn't take but a couple of years! I'll trade it finished and framed for a new high steer arm for a Dana 60!
 
The bombardment of Algiers huh...for those who don't know, this was an attempt of the British in 1816 to stop the slaving of Christians by those savage Algierians. Good luck with the puzzle. :eek:

More parts than the jeep that took 2.5 years to build and these all look the same!
 
Might want to plan on dropping your tank or removing the hangers or just using a hack saw to get the bolts out.

The shackles were either put on before the tank was in or put on the hanger before it was installed. :eek:

May just be the pic angle, but the passenger side hanger looks a little tweeked.

Well I am pretty sure they are tweaked...which is why I thought they needed replacing.
 
A crowbar and a four pound sledge was all it took to get my old shackles out for changing the bushings. (When a bolt broke on reassembly, they came back apart easy as pie!)

Get a stout screwdriver for getting those rusted-in :censored: bushings out. Mine came out in at least 3,000 pieces...

Just wanted to clarify my awesome ( New ) 3 letter post :rolleyes:. The stock shackles always looked "spindley" to me. Once the Cj has been lifted or modified that changes the stress that they were designed for originally. That said ,there are a bunch of Cjs out there that have done just fine on those stock shackles for 30 years or so. But you want yours to last another 30 right? :) How many cycles do you think they've seen since the early 80s? I think its too many, and Im buying newer heavier duty ones.
 
Thanks Pete...yeah checking all my options. I went over the old ones again and they look pretty weak. The springs actually look good, so getting something stronger instead of OEM replacement is the way I am planning to go.
