The shaft of the front shock mount snapped off within the sleeve area. Have a friend who is a welder and said he'd look at reattaching it. Since the area where it snapped off is inaccessible and located within the sleeve, he was going to slide it into the sleeve and weld it to the sleeve itself.

This is my mostly DD and rarely sees off road. Do you think the weld will hold?

Thanks!

If welded right it should hold. My ? is why did it break in the first place. You may have the wrong shocks so they are bottoming out before you hit the bump stops.

I do think it will break. I am wondering why it broke and has that problem been corrected?:D

:agree: With the repeated stress thats under I think it'll fail again. Guess Im the 3rd guy who wants to know why it did.

make that 4 that think the shock must be bottoming out for some reason.:D
I think a good weld would hold, but you should be able to find a new plate and do it right.

Correct shocks are installed. One of the original owners garaged it and took good care of it but the PO bashed in the CJ pretty good while going through a divorce as he said... It had a rear bent axle housing, bent wheel, mashed up sheet metal, etc but I got it pretty cheap because of that. Was happy the frame was true and not a bit of rust.

You can tell by the break pattern that it had been previously cracked about half way through the shaft for quite some time. It's only been on the streets so far but still I'm surprised it held on for that long.

I removed the tower and noticed that the sleeve had a slight up-bend to it as well. From the factory, the sleeve is not welded on the bottom, only the top which I don't like.

Can't find new towers online. I ground down the areas around the sleeve, shaft and tower so I think I going to have my friend weld both and see what happens.
