I have a 55 cj (all stock) and I have a lot of slop in the steering. I did notice that the shaft that the pittman arm attaches to on the steering box is moving side to side some as the steering wheel is moved. All the rest of the tie rods, etc seem nice and tight. Can this be fixed by replacing the bushing around the shaft? Have never worked on a steering box but I may be able to repair it. If it isn't simple to do, where could I go to find a replacement steering box?

Any suggestions?

That sounds like the lower bearing is worn out or the shaft is worn.

Morris should have the parts you need -->> Jeep Steering Parts - 1941-1971 MB, CJ2A, CJ3A, CJ3B, M38, M38A1, CJ5 & CJ6 at Morris 4x4

If I remember correctly - it is not a hard fix... :)
