Not Stalker, Stocker.:D

I have had my CJ5 lifted 5 inches with 33 inch rubber since 1992. I have used several suspensions but they all end up the same height. Right now I run Black Diamond springs and I like them alot. Here is the thing though. Sometimes when I look at nice Cj's on the net that are stock height with 31's or 32's I really dig them. I was planning on a spring over this winter with Wranglers spring so I can get a better ride quality but I keep looking at stockers and wanting to maybe drop my Jeep back down with a little smaller tire or maybe even doing some fender clearancing for my 33's with stock height springs from Softride.

Am I nuckin futs or just getting older??????????????:dunno:

The inexperience and exuberance of youth makes you want to lift it as high as it can go, put the biggest tires you can possibly cram under it and wheel it harder than anyone has ever wheeled before.

Then, you grow up a little. You realize that those huge freaking tires, just eat up gas. 3" of lift can get you to the exact same place that 5" or 7" lifts can.

So, no, you're not going nuts, and you're not old. Let's just say with age comes experience :chug:

If you havent seen member "Hole" CJ8 you need to take a look. It just looks right barely modified. Id keep your CJ5 and mod it the way you mentioned , but ofcourse my solution would be to buy another stocker on top of it. ;)

Keep yours for the trail and buy a stocker for the DD look, you like now.:chug:

I like a balanced look, I do not llike the look of a vehicles who has to much tire, or to much lift. I like to see enough lift for the tire so it can use the clearance at full compression. I seems to me CJs look best with less lift than a TJ. Maybe that is because they have so much less flex, and anyway you wheel them so much different.
I think it is taste. and maybe experience, but as I get older I seem to think of money wasted in my youth and do not go so extreme in lifts and stuff, and still go down the same trails.

One look I like alot is a big tire with the tube front fenders and the tj rear flair with little or no lift. I might need to do a poll thread.

I find it a bit un nerving when I ask some one why they did something, lift, tire size etc. and the reply is”it looked good”. WTF
I think I have slightly more lift than I need to run 33’s off road and I like driving on road with 31’s. I want to be just high enough to clear the wheel wells and not change my center of gravity too much. For me it is the difference between “fun to drive” and “work”.
Lets face it, a CJ5 is not a sports car , it’s tall and narrow and can be a bit unstable at very best , if I am going to change my suspension it is for a good reason and not just because I have some steel to make 12 inch shackles with. If you do the lift right and understand what you are changing and why , I say go for it and the guy with the 12 inch shackles, I will continue to watch from a distance.

And then again it does look good, so I say “whatever floats your boat”.

I like the way mine sits on 35" Swampers....I must be getting old, since I've always wanted a CJ5 on 44" Boggers!
Stock height is nice for a summer cruise, but you ain't fooling me into believing that a stocker on 32" tires can go where mine does...Most places yes. everywhere? Not a chance.

(proved last summer when we went out with a new friend and his stocker, 33" tired CJ5 . He got towed (yea on a winch line) over most of the simpler (but technical) stuff the group was doing. And it was supposed to be a newbie "easy trail" run! Not because he couldn't drive, but because the CJ wasn't up to the task. did I say that?!?)
