Been discussed many times before but want honest truth, my leaf suspension bushings are toast,

I brought genuine rubber style ones but they seem to be loose in the spring eye, the originals were tight? are there different sizes or is this common.

Jeep is a 1975 CJ6 with a 4" spring lift kit (Skyjacker) I believe.

Any help appreciated

Can't say for sure, as I'm not familiar with that year but it probably had steel sleeves in it too. Just a thought. Or maybe the original springs had 1.5" spring eyes instead of 1" because some of the older Jeeps did.

Yep the old bushes had the steel sleeve, but so do the new ones, the problem is they just push in by hand and if you lifted the spring up sideways they would just fall out.

Do you still have the old springs? Measure the ID of the spring eyes, they may have been larger and if you ordered a replacement set for that model, they would have been for the original springs not the newer skyjacker ones.

Like Pa said...btw, IF you go to Urethane, do yourself a favor and get the greaseable center bolts and silicone grease as well. Mine have been running for 10 years with no issues.

My poly bushings on the rear lasted four years before they were worn through. As in the bolt wore through the bushings.

 Did your bolts have a sleeve running through the center? I can't see the bolts burrowing through the poly, unless there isn't a sleeve. What brand were the bushings?

Yep, sleeve and all wore through the bushing. The sleeves were resting on the spring eyes and shackle eye. I think they were Poly Performance.

Metal fatigue.
Chances are your spring eyes have opened up slightly with age. Is there a noticeable gap where the eye curls around and meets the spring?
If so not much you can do about it.

Nope. When I replaced the bushings, the springs were three years old. New bushings went in nice an snug. Just :dung: bushings.
