So, it's soo close! Spring, that is! Today, for instance, I'm slaving away on a looong and way overdue honey-do list.. and I literally mean slaving away, because when you blow out 2 walls and a hallway on the north end of your victorian home, to build your wife her dream master suite out of two of your four upstairs' bedrooms, then leave out of state for work and don't get back home for 15 months, you do become a slave, I don't care what anyone says!
On top of that, she decides, sometime during those 15 months, "that the walk up attic really should be finished, so I can have a crafting room"
, which was something I had began working on a couple years ago, installing knee walls, wiring and insulating to just have a usable space, I mean it's an extra 8 or 900 sq ft, right? Well to make a long story longer, we have lived here for like 6-7 yrs, and I still haven't built myself a garage... I have enough room to add a really nice 30x45 shop/garage , but again, work keeps me from getting this done... I know, Hire a contractor you say, well we tried that once while I was away, and it made my wife and myself very uncomfortabe, mostly her as I knew the owner and we're good friends, but never the less there was no way it was happening again... needless to say at this point, no garage untill the house is done..
.. she had also decided to "help me out" by moving a bunch out
(stuff) from the attic so she could get it all organized and try and sell it on ebay (she's also kind of an auction hound), and put it in the new and unfinished master suite... so this 24x17 ft. room is full of
(stuff, I mean), not to mention, both of my grown sons are living at home again, due to economic woes, so we have all their
(damn, I mean stuff) in our house as well too..
..
Did I mention I have no garage??.. so, except for my large rollaway tool box, (which is at the shop I rent, that's 30 miles away with all my other toys, and an entirely different story) every hand and wood working tool I own, nailers, compressor, table saw, sanders, powermiter, a small rollaway stacker with a handful of mechanics tools for quick fixes in the driveway, and just about anything you can imagine a garage and basement would have after being married, and owning homes for 26 yrs, is crammed into my two room basement, along with two deep freezers, a furnace and a 50 gallon water heater, with an outside access only staircase and 3" of fresh snow from the other day... so like I was saying, slaving away... and after falling down the snow covered outside staircase to string the air hose out and up to the attic where I'm working today, only to see that somehow the female air chuck on the hose had corroded to where it wouldn't move, and spending near 2 hours trying to find the right this and that to get it apart, clean and repair, using the floor for a work bench (I completely ruined the fitting, by the way), dragged the compressor to the attice, along with the nail gun, miter saw and stand, I successfully cut and nailed in the 31" 2x4 I needed to finish the knee wall, yes I made one cut, but I measured twice... I then installed the rest of the insulation in the west room of the attic!!
Well, like I said way back when, spring is close.. it hit dang near 70 degrees today, and my slave driver, er, I mean wonderful wife, notices how I had struggled all day to get that 2x4 in place and says "wow is it nice outside, WE should take a drive in the Jeep"
!?!? I couldn't get out of the attic fast enough!!
"I'll warm 'er up baby!!" scramble down the stairs, grab the keys and outside I go thinking, man it's REALLY nice out! Should I take the top off?? I've never driven it with the top off!! How will I get it off? Do I ask her to help me?? I don't know, might ruin the mood... I could ask my neighbor!! Damn, he's not home!! Oh well, widows down it is! Vroom!! Vroom!! Wait, what's this?! No gas??! WTF?? The shed, there has to be gas in one of those five 5 gallon gas cans... right?? RIGHT???
There wasn't...
