Hello all.
I'm looking for some help on measurement for stock springs on a 72 CJ5 .

I need the arch measurement for both front and rear leaf springs and the measurement for the stock length shackles.

I can use either unloaded or loaded measurements, but the loaded would measurement would be better.

If anyone still has a stock suspension on a 72 CJ5 I would be very happy to hear from you.

Thank you all for your help.

Call the spring manufactures............they will have that info in there files. Springs are measured eye to eye along the arch of the spring , not from eye to eye directly across...........

73CJ, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
That is exactly what I was looking for. You would not believe how many so called "techs" I have talked to who have NO specs on the products they sell. And try talking to the manufacturers, HA 4 phone calls and two voice mails and I still haven't been able to get an answer. But that link you gave me, I saved that. That was perfect.

tarry, you are only half right. They do measure eye to eye following the arch. BUT they also measure the ARCH by drawing a straight line from center of eye to center of eye, then measure down from that line to either the top of the spring pack (if they mount under the axle) or the bottom of the spring pack (if they mount on top of the axle). This measurement can be vital. If you have a spring that is say 58 " long following the arch and it has a 4" arch rise, and you take that spring and re-arch the springs for a 7" rise, you have just lifted the vehicle 3", but the spring length eye to eye following the arch is still 58"

:) Call it what you want , But the fact still remains , The only True measurement in Spring building is the dimension that would be from eye to eye following the arch of the spring..........without that you don't get springs built.
In the drawing that was posted for SD Springs that would be the A to B measurement..the C measurement is what is commonly called "Free Arch" but since that dimension is unknown until all the other factors like lift and the amount of weight your trying to support is factored in that is not a dimension that would be called out in the build process, as it only becomes a known when finished.........
The only True way to get the correct spring Packs built the first time would be to weigh each corner while loaded , while subtracting the un-sprung weight.........then apply those factors to the spring building calculations.
Also high arched springs will sometimes need a longer shackle in order to function.

Many years ago I put 12 leaf fronts and nine leaf rears which were a factory option in 73

It rode like a tank the axles didn't move in relation to the frame. Spring rate is real important.
