Can someone confirm for me how the spring/retainer should be placed inside the lower steering coupling for a 74 CJ5 ? This diagram - 5450034 Lower Steering Column Boot 1972-1975 Jeep CJ5 CJ6 - shows it being put in from the side. I couldn't get it on that way.

The Assembly section under the Steering U-Joint Coupling heading in the 74 TSM reads "4) place retainer over end of shaft". So, I put in on over the end of the shaft. Btw, the TSM diagram of the steering column includes the coupling, but the coupling is not "blown up" to show the insides (pages 11-2 through 11-4 for those of you keeping score at home).

Now, I am concerned that it might slip off if there is any movement in the shaft.

Thanks in advance.
