Have a 69 CJ5 with a V6 and amlooking for a company that can rebuild my steering box. I have done a little reading on the site about someother potential culprits but think I have gone over everything else pretty good. Looking to "tighten"up the response some. So far I have not found a company to do this.

Thanks in advance.

Mac, is yours power or manual? I rebuilt mine and it wasn't too much of a project. My steering was very bad, check out my build thread for pics of steering rebuild. I don't think you have the same Ross as I did though.

http://walcks4wd.com/ if you haven't checked there give them a call. That is where I got the parts for my 66.

My box is manual. I have done a little research and have read both easy and hard to do. From a conceptual stand point of how they work I dont think it would be that tough. In the end it might be my only option. I will have to write down the make of my unit and make some calls. I was hoping to get lucky and someone would have a good connection.

Good link to Walcks. I have a 70 CJ5 with the V-6. My manual steering box in shot, I can rebuild it and that is the route I am taking. Finding parts for the build is crazy. I can find everything for the 4 cylinder, but the V-6 seems impossible. My sector shaft is worn out and the primary part I am looking for, not to mention the seals and bearings. Any help out there would be great. I need to find someone who sells the rebuild parts for the V-6 Ross manual steering box. Anyone else out there run into this same problem and found a solution>>>> Thanks

:)Parts for the old Ross sterring boxes are getting harder to find......notwithstanding all the linkage and center cross that also wears out.

If your a purest and want your Jeep all Original I can surely understand.

But, if you don't mind some work I would install a Saginaw forward mount Manual or power Steering Box.........one of the best improvements that can be made to an early CJ.............just my opinion!

Thanks for the advice. I have been toying with the idea of just switching over to a power or newer manual style box. The Saginaw seems to be the way to go and know that I should make the switch. I am not a true Jeep purest especially when it comes to finding those hard to locate parts. Thanks for the suggestion, I will start my research on the Saginaw switch.

:)I would do that...........send me a PM and I'll help you put together a parts and source list........

I have searched high and low for V-6 ross steering gear parts as you have.No luck .MY '69 has sag. power,no big deal with that if its done right. I have seen many that are badly done. The '67 still has the ross and i'm holding out for stock. It's still OK with a little play in the worm and sector but more than drivable on hiway. BTW if you go saginaw you don't have to change the coluumn if you want to keep the original look.Just modifiy the end. Mike:)
