i have three steering colums out of cj's and they all have different ends where the shaft hooks to it. is part of them just missing or were there just different ends on different ones?

I have the same problem, 3 columns for my CJ. I picked up a tilt column from a cherokee and I intend on adapting it to fit my GM power steering.
I would pick the column you like the best, and adapt it with a Steering Universal Joint. Here is a good site that will help you identify what type of Spline you have and what adapter you will need to make it work.

I cut the CJ shaft and the Cherokee shaft and welded the end of the Cherokee on the bottom end of the CJ. everything works as long as you get it the length right and do a decent welding job. You can use a section of the inside slider from the Cherokee to line up the weld joint.

what i am talking about tho is at the end of the colum where the splines should be for the steering shaft to hook up to one has the splined shaft on the end and the others do not, so is something missing on them?

does one look like it has a half a hole drilled across the shaft??

A pic of your steering shaft, column, and steering u-joint would sure help in this matter. I'm guessing you need the proper steering u-joint that will connect your steering shaft and column together.

see the end of the colum where the splined piece is, that isnt there on mine, is it detatchable or is it just a different shaft? thanks for the help this far tho guys

you sure the shaft isn't pulled up a little bit in column
sounds like it is if it was pulled out and its sitting on steering wheel flopping around in garage thought same thing till I double checked 1/2 inch will pretty much not appear on upper half at base of steering wheel but will show at the shaft end shaft sliding in the plastic sleeve at bottom of column looking like its not there

If thats the column in the pict above is the one you need
shoot me a pm

I am planning to lift the body to accomodate 35" tires (The jeep has already been lifted 3", I think) could someone tell me what to expect? what about the steering column and the clutch linkage? Thanks, I'm new to the jeeping world but have been off roading with trucks and bikes for years.
