I am rebuilding the steering column on my 1982 CJ8 , without tilt steering. In need of the plastic shroud below the metal bowl. Mine is cracked. See pictures. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks I will start looking.
Great, it's a heck of a lot easier to find the GM type than the CJ.
Have any pics of the CJ8 that you could share? We love pics!

Nice and very clean CJ8 :chug:

Be sure and let us know if you find the lower cover. Also, of you wish to share more about you CJ8 the Members forum is begging for a thread... 🙏

Very nice looking !

Sweet looking CJ. Yes, that shroud (or "bowl" as also called) is actually made from a material called "unobtanium". But the Mopar Parts Web Store shows to have it at: Mopar Parts Site

Another source is steeringcolumnservices.com, but they are WAY expensive. I also got a complete column from Steering Columns Galore in NY. They may also sell parts. I converted from a non-tilt to tilt and eliminated the ignition lock since I have push button start. They did a great job and I am quite pleased.

The salvage yard is a great option.

Thanks for the leads. I will check them all out. Strange the mopar site says it fits 84-86 (mine is a 82) but the CJ parts catalog I have uses that part # and makes no distinction between the years.

  • Thanks for the Post!
Reactions: CJ
Every non tilt from 76 and up uses a GM column. The catalogs break down by default years while almost all mid GM columns have interchangeable parts.
Ex, the catalogs do not tell you that an AMC brake booster from any AMC Hornet or mid size AMC works on a CJ. It's learned knowledge.
