First off this is my first post.Expect many more!
I have a 96 CJ5 with the steering column play at the bottom where the cap is clipped on.I put a hose clamp around it real tight and it took most of the play out. What I need to know is there a kit to fix this or do I need to find another column? It has a little play in the steering shaft but not much. The box has a little but not bad either.
I want to fix this one step at a time and as reasonably as I can.

I will mark that and if I dont get the tilt column off Ebay I will get the kit.
Like to have tilt my fat belly gets in the way.
Like I stated I just want to do one thing at a time so I KNOW what takes care of what.

I think the lower bearing in my column is completely shot. The shaft rattles around in there and there is definite play in the steering. I saw this post and for $14 it is worth a try to see if it fixes part of my issue.

How difficult is this job?

I cannot figure out how to access the area to get the bearing in?

Dang you guys! I went to check mine and it's a bit loose too! not bad and does not translate into rotational slop so will prob let it go for now.:bang:
It is a bit of hassle to replace if my thinking is correct cuse you need to pull the column out and although not "rocket surgery" you will end up with some bare knuckles.:(

Not bad to change the bushing.Take shaft loose at column and slide it down replace bushing

the 72-75 lower bushing is entirely different than the 1976 and later bushing
