I just bought a 72 CJ5 ,I want to put a more modern column with tilt and a newer style steering wheel than the origonal giant plain wheel .Also change to power steering at the same time. what column and steering box will work almost plug and play. I dont want to start heavy mods on this jeep yet . I plan on driving it everyday . I dont even care too much if it aint a tilt ,its just that the stock steering wheel is so big and Im told the later (79 ) style wheel wont fit the original steering column. any help is appreciated.

Plug and Play? NONE
get the book by Moses Lundel A CJ rebuilders manual, I believe in the early jeep version, he deals with a steering column conversion with great explanations and pictures. It is a nice mod, but not plug and play by any means, there will be adapting, reinforcing and bracketry on any mod.

I own a 72 also, never changed to a tilt because of the pain. The wheel is just a small swap. I have a Grant wheel.

A power conversion is a very easy swap. You will need pump, hoses and a coupling for the steering shaft. Almost all saginaw boxes bolt right in.
