I'm rebuilding a 1979 Golden Eagle and am having trouble removing steering column I have it removed at the dash and fire wall but cant seem to remove the shaft from the spline at the u joint. Any Ideas would be great!

If it's the bolt I'm thinking of, did you loosen it up or remove it entirely? The bolt that tightens the clamp has to be removed before the shaft can be slid off the splines. Even then it can take a BFH to get it to budge sometimes.

the bolt has to come off (there is a groove in the shaft it rides on) then spray liberally with WD40, spread the ears of the clamp out a little with a pry bar then use a BFH that should get it off of there :chug:

I had the same issue - I soaked it with PB Blaster, pried apart the clamp as referenced above, and shook/pulled the upper shaft. Once I got it apart I cleaned the spines and applied a liberal amount of grease.

Something I forgot was to do after putting it back together is there's a cup that clips to the bottom of the upper shaft - make sure you keep tabs of it if it comes off (not sure its purpose but I've been running fine without it to now).

it would be good to put that cup back on as it is a support for your steering shaft :chug:
