RE: 83 CJ7 "Steering Damper to Spring Tie Plate Bracket"

Finally putting the front end back together and I forget where the bracket goes. Is it sandwiched between the leaf spring and the axel pad? If so, how come there is not the same type of spacer on the passenger side to keep things "level" side to side?

Because in the big picture, that 3/16th difference doesn't amount to much. If it makes you feel better, you can put a spacer of the same thickness on the other side between the perch and spring so it lowers that side the same amount........but you'll need a passenger all the time that weighs the same as you, the driver.....JK

Thank you for entertaining my excessive compulsive neurosis. Now, when I calculate the ballast for the driver to passenger balance ratio, should I include the monkey on my back…or just ignore him?

Steve, I think most guys just remove the dampner anyway. After oversize tires and high lift suspensions the front end is quite different from the way it came from the factory. Also, your vehicle will always lean from one side to the other, it is known as the "Jeep lean" I think it is called. You could just remove that dampner and see how it feels.

wait you can get him to stay in one place? mine keeps jumping around, his favorite place is in front hanging onto the grill. maybe i need to work harder on training.
