I have a 74 CJ5 with power steering. I noticed a leak from the seal at the input from the steering rod to the gear.

How hard is it to rebuild a steering gear? I was thinking of buying the Master rebuild kit and rebuilding the unit. Then I thought, why go through all of the hassle of a rebuild, just buy another steering gear and be done with it.

Anyone have any experience on rebuilding the steering gear?

As always, thanks for the help/advice!

I haven't rebuilt one, but I've pondered doing so. Here are some links:

Since a Saginaw steering box is a widely-used item, you could grab a junk yard box, rebuild it, and not suffer Jeep withdrawal during prolonged down time. Just be sure it has the same mounting bolt pattern.
You can see from the attached, I didn't follow my own advice.
