Need some help...I took the steering column apart to tighten down the four external torx head fasteners that secure the lower tilt housing to the column. I'm in the process of putting it back together, but I hit a roadblock. I put the lock cylinder back in the steering column and lined everything up (it will turn just fine), but I can't get the lock cylinder screw back in, and I can't get the cylinder to release the key.

I got a little frustrated with it and decided to take a few minutes, have a beer, and then relook the problem. I may have just gotten frustrated with it and overlooked something minor, but I'd love another opinion.

I'm attaching some pictures of what I'm working with.

I'm sorry to say, that I can't help with the lock issue.
If you haven't-Disco the POS(+)cable from the battery before you do anything else.

Oh, that was the first thing I did! I ended up getting it figured out. Thanks!

PLZ post up what your fix was, so I and others can learn.

The problem was that the screw which held the lock cylinder in place was a regular metal screw. No doubt the previous owner pieced it together (probably from a junk yard) in order to have a steering column to which he could attach a 3-bolt Grant steering wheel.

I took the Jeep to a mechanic and CJ/TJ enthusiast, who got me the correct lock cylinder retaining pin. Everything else was simply putting it back together.

Since then, I have installed a quick release steering wheel. Pictures to follow.
