I've read some of the steering issue post but I think I have a different question..... Ok so I reworked all steering components Except the column and steering shaft. I had at least 3/8 inch play in the upper coupling so I ordered and installed an omni heavy duty shaft. It made a BIG difference, I consider it done except I never even thought of the dampening style. I can feel the road . I know its a jeep and will be wheeled when ready but is it worth the approx $300 for the dampening style? I dont remember my last jeep having that "feel". Tell me to get over it.????

Do you have power steering?

Or bigger tires?

You will feel the road with manual And bigger tires.

Hit a stump or rock with manual and if your thumb is in the wrong spot - ouch

power steering

Torxhead, I have, The steering is superb now, max out speedo and drives great. I feel like the slight road feel(in the steering wheel) is directly related to the steering shaft. I guess the real question is whats the best shaft to run? One with or without the dampener?

When I finished going thru my steering, which took years, the last thing I replaced was the steering box. This helped out quite a bit and now my steering system is complete for now anyway.

ordered and received a borgeson shaft with dampner. Will post results.

finally put in the steering shaft, the dampner is night and day difference.

Good to hear, those shafts and numerous set screws will rust up if you are concerned about that.

Thanks for following up and letting everyone know what worked for you! Wish it was done more often.

your welcome.. i painted it with black high temp engine paint and sprayed it with corrosion x. should last awhile. when the time comes i will look into drilling and adding bolts or something. what i was looking for was for it to "feel" as good as it rides. shouldnt hurt anything on the trail either.
