Hello All, I have a 1980 CJ5 with manual steering. The steering is very sloppy and I discovered allot of play in the steering shaft. the lower bearing is all but gone and the little u-joint is very loose. Is there a way to replace the u-joint other than replacing the whole shaft? I see there are bearing replacement out there online, that's no problem. I just didn't want to pay 109 bucks if I didn't have to

If you have a lot of slop in your steering shaft spending the $109 could make the biggest difference in the world in driving your jeep. I ditched my stock shaft and went with a borgenson and have 0 regrets

Same story here. Rebuilt several times then went Flaming River.

Zero regrets.

No slop is cool. :D

Replaced mine soon as I got my Jeep.Well worth the cash.

well I have bought a used replacement shaft online just to get me by this winter
and will be looking to upgrade next summer. thanks for all your great responces

I also went to a Borgeson, But if anyone needs a really good stock Manual shaft ,box and manual 4" lift pitman arm, I have them laying around.
