Anyone know off hand what the thread size for the steering column on a 1972 CJ5 is? Best I can figure is 3/4 X 24 fine. I buggered up some threads taking the steering wheel off.

CJ7 nuts that i have are either 13/16 fine or 14x1.5 if there is a groove in the splines the one in the 71" is 9/16 fine. Not really sure if a 72" 5 would be the 13/16 or 9/16. Most early gm columns were 9/16 unf.

I assume you are talking about the Double D shaft that is used from the firewall to your steering gear? If so that shaft has nothing to do with your suspension.........The collapsible nature of that shaft is purely there to protect your body from a frontal impact which could result in that shaft being shoved reward into you............
