OK, This is my first thread. I have a 74 CJ5 with manual steering. The steering wheel has the typical cracks in it but it is just too skinny.
I want to replace it with a thicker wheel of about the same size which I think is 17". I have searched online but thought I would throw it to you experts! I am sure someone on this forum has been through this. Any suggestions?
BTW, I am OK with the manual steering so I don't see myself going to power steering.

You must be thinner than me! :) I used a 13" or so Grant and am very pleased with it. I'm sure you could order the size you want online but most CJ's I've noticed have smaller aftermarket wheels. Good luck and welcome!

Thanks Shazam. So, you have a 13" Grant wheel with manual steering? How is the handling on and off road? I appreciate it.

Since you have manual steering and don't have trouble getting in past the steering wheel I wouldn't get a wheel any smaller than the OEM.
Now the style you get is a matter of personal preference but I like the simple, sporty steering wheels that came with a lot of CJs.

I may just end up finding a good leather wrap...I do like to stay stock when I can...at least while I still fit!

Grant has lots of wheels. Take your pick. They all take an adapter kit. Check out eBay.

This is the exact wheel I have (30.00 at Autozone) for the reason BusaDave mentions. The steering is good and tight - but I expect I owe more to the shaft, box, alignment, etc. than I do the wheel as it just bolts on. Hope you find what you like.
