Hey guys - what size steering wheel are you using and what are your opinions on the best size for CJ's?

Mine has a 13" Grant steering wheel, and to me it feels a bit like a go-kart wheel.

On my '77 Ford F150, I had a 14.75" Grant mahogany steering wheel. I loved it because in the cold, it warmed up fast, and it didn't get scorching hot in the El Paso summers. I'm just worried that it would be too big for a CJ?

Thanks!

Do you know what size the original is?
Not off hand. The Jeep is spending the winter at my lake house, but I'm heading up there tomorrow, so I can measure it then, if no one answers before that.

The OEM wheels show up for sale every now and then, AMC used the identical wheel in some of their cars, with the exception of the horn button insert.

In actuality, since I have a CJ5 and even though I have a tilt column, it would be nice if it were just a bit smaller. Perhaps an inch smaller in diameter.

I also like the 13" wheel, and describing it like a go cart wheel is pretty accurate.

My CJ came with one of those little low rider style wheels. OMG I could not replace it fast enough. Unfortunately the replacement was one of the cheaper models. That one didn't last very long either. The one I have now is a stock 17" wheel, I like the tradition of it. My CJ has the old Golf cart style steering column yours is a GM column. Most replacement wheels in the 15" area feel about right. You could go to most any junk yard and find a GM wheel that would fit. Grant and several other companies have a HUGE selection of wheels to choose from. Some are reasonable, some will take big piles of money to bring home. I suggest spending a little more than the lowest price point. The wheel will have a better feel in your hand and will last a LOT longer. When buying pay attention to the small things like Dish and the adaptors needed. The wrong combination of dish and a long adaptor can be a bad thing.
