What did you replace?
Is this a new rebuilt steering gear?
Is this a stock CJ steering gear?
Mounted on the Left front frame rail?
Was the pittman arm off?
Is it a dropped Pittman arm?

Need more info.
:D

Without being there I'd guess the adjustment on the box is too tight-since you just replaced the box.

Does it seem hard to turn the wheel?

There's a whole bunch of writeups on the procedure if thats what you want to try.

Well since you say it turns easy........and since it is a new rebuild I would eliminate the sector shaft adjustment as that's only a fine adjustment.

I am assuming the pittman arm went back on in the exact place it cam off and if so did the drag link and tie rod go back on in the exact same spot without any adjustment?
Then if Yes we can assume that the steering gear box was centered turn to turn when installed?:)

i think the pittman arm went back on in same place and every thing you said [key word think] and took it to a alingment shop to get her checked out. Bob

Let us know the outcome.............

anybody else chime in please this thing scares me.

You were going to the alignment shop.......So what happened?

Be more specific about what scares you.

This is a Manual gear box ? Correct?

You need to tell this forum everything that you have done that lead up to what its doing now.

:)Most times if a steering wheel will not center itself after a turn look to alignment and toe in............but there is also a host of other things like suspension, tire pressure, ball joints, that could also play a part in what your describing.
You said the pittman arm was off and "you think" it went back on correctly?
Did you have to make any changes in adjustment to the tie rod or drag link?
Is this steering gear a direct replacement for this vehicle?
Please answer these questions:
If the steering gear was not centered when it was installed that would be the first place to look............all steering gears have a "Sweet Spot" exactly half way between full left and full right. Once its installed then the Pittman arm has to go on straight back and the drag link and tie rods have to be adjusted properly including the final adjustment for toe in...........

You have the vehicle there and all anyone can do from a distance is make suggestions...........
