Ok my problem is I had to get a steering shaft for my 73 CJ5 , b/c i wanted to go back with an original. But there is alot of play with the shaft that goes into the steering box. Is there a bushing that I can get to put on the end that goes into the steering box? Or any other advice. Also I had to take the inside steering shaft out of the casing and take some sand paper due to rust. I greased it up and put it back on but it doesn't look like its locking back in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to try and get some pics of the shaft later.

The more I look at morris 4x4 I'm wondering if its the coupler that I do not have. I bought this shaft off a guy that was parting out a 73 cj so I know the shaft should be right. Problem like always is my jeep is a franken jeep. I don't know what the gear box thats on it is originally out of. Bc it has power steering now, but didn't when it came out of the factory. Something the Po did before I got it.

Yes you should have a coupler that fits on the gearbox.

Then the shaft with pins fit into the coupler.

Thanks yall, thats what it was missing was the coupler. I just got done ordering on from morris. Now waiting on my replacement bowls for the carb. and then putting it all back together. hope to have lots of pics when I get done.

Be sure what you ordered is for a power steering box. They are different spline sizes.

i just finished replacing that coupler on my jeep

Does yours fit well or does it have play in it? I've heard the repro Omix/Crown bell couplers tend to be loose.

mine seems tight but i dont have anything to compare it to
mine is also manual steering

Like always something comes up and I don't get done what I'm expecting to. I haven't ordered the coupler yet, and before I do I want to make sure that I order the right one. I don't know what the ps gear box is off of. Can I order one for a jeep ps gear box and it be the correct coupler?

flaming river makes u joint couplers that are made for a given number of splines and/or a double D shaft. they are expensive but made of stainless and should last pretty much forever.:D

This takes the guess work out of dealing with a creative system.

Mine wore out in the first year, save your money and do as IO said, I got mine from Borgson though.
