You may never have heard of Steve McQueen depending on your age, but your parents definitely have. He was the "King of Cool", an actor in many adventure movies from the '60's and '70's. I read somewhere that he was a man of simple likes; beautiful women, good Mexican food, and nice cars. As such it's only appropriate that he had a Jeep.
Of course his CJ5 was far from simple, as this photo reveals. Chrome roll bar, dual spare tires, healthy side pipe exhaust from a V8 under the hood. I saw once that it was built by the now defunct Con-Ferr Off Road and used in many of their catalogs, . It was rumored to have been purchased by Sonny Bono of Sonny and Cher fame, and stored at his house out in Palm Springs. Slight additional info about the Jeep can be found in the book Mcqueen's Machines, but it's current whereabouts are unknown. If you have any info on this cool old CJ5 let us know.
