In a related thread here I am trying to figure out the stock ride height of a '79 CJ5 so I can calculate the lift installed on it years before I purchased it. If anyone has a "stock" height suspension on a same/similar model, could you please tell me the distance between the frame (just behind bumpstop) to the top of the springs (just behind the perch)? Thanks. That will help me a lot in deciding how to match same ride height with newer springs that will give a better ride.

I too have a '79 CJ5 and would love to find out the how high it was from the factory. The previous owner installed a shackle reversal up front and long shackles in back. I want to replace the rear suspension with shorter shackles and lifted springs (and still keep the CJ level).
The problem is if anyone has a '79 CJ5 , even if it hasn't been weighted down with a winch and other accessories it probably has a bit of sag in the springs.
Anyway, if someone has a '79 CJ5 with stock springs let us know how high it sits.

If you were to post a couple of pictures I bet some one could make a pretty educated guess on the ammount of lift. I would say you should be able to carry 33's comfortably with a 4 inch lift with out a lot left over.
